Allowing Product Alternatives and Bring Your Own

When participants join a protocol that includes your product or service, they are required to pay for those items. However, there may be instances where a participant already owns the product or a similar one. This is particularly significant for more expensive, multi-use products, like smart health devices.

To prevent participants from avoiding a protocol because it calls for purchasing a costly item they already have, Efforia gives you—the product/service owner—the option to allow participants to use their own device or even an approved alternative.

Efforia strives to create a flexible and accessible environment for both product owners and participants. If a participant owns one of the approved alternatives, Efforia offers a discount on their protocol join fee for protocols that include the product.

As a product owner, you are empowered to permit or prohibit the use of alternative items ("bring your own") as per your preferences. However, it's important to note that even if you allow this, individual protocol authors may choose not to permit it in their respective protocols.

This setup allows for a balance between product owner preferences, participant needs, and the specific requirements of each protocol to ensure the most effective outcomes.

How to Set Approved Alternatives

To manage this setting, go to your product settings page and make one of the following selections:

  • Allow Bring Your Own: Select this if you want to permit users to use the same product or service they already own. For example, if your product is the Oura Ring, checking this box would allow potential participants to connect their existing Oura Ring, avoiding the need to purchase a new one.

  • Allow Alternative: Choose this option to allow users to use either the same product or a similar one. For instance, if your product is the Oura Ring, checking this box would allow potential participants to connect their existing Oura Ring or other similar devices like a Whoop, Fitbit, Apple Watch, or Garmin. If you choose Allow alternatives, please select from the product list appropriate alternatives.
